Make Your Own Communication Cards

Type your own words and emoji into the cards below — in English, Shona, Ndebele, or any language. Print on A4, cut out, and use.

Step 1 — Type your wordClick the bottom line of any card and type the word you want on the card, in whichever language your child responds to best.

Step 2 — Add a pictureClick the top of the card and type an emoji. On phone: use your emoji keyboard. On computer: Windows key + . or Cmd + Ctrl + Space on Mac.

Step 3 — Add a translation (optional)The small line underneath each card is for an optional English translation, useful if anyone else needs to understand the card.

Step 4 — Print and cutClick Print Cards. All your cards print together on A4, ready to cut out along the dotted lines. Laminate if possible.

Tip: Use words your child already knows and responds to. Keep them short — one or two words maximum per card. You can fill in as many or as few cards as you need and leave the rest blank.
